The Selsey Care Shop

Dedicated to supporting the local community

The Selsey Care Shop - High Street Selsey

What Do We Do?

The Selsey Care Shop is managed by the Selsey Community Forum, and is located on the High Street.

We oversee ten Community Groups, each having a Service Lead and, within each of those Community Groups, many diverse activities and support services take place.

Every month we produce a Community Diary of all these activities and we are very grateful for all the venues that are offered to us free of charge as, for so many in our community, they become a welcoming sociable and safe space.

Its central position in the High Street acts as a one-stop-shop for access to the community activities and other services provided by the Selsey Community Forum.

The Care Shop is open 7 days a week and is the first point of contact for all our users; the staff and volunteers in the Shop will refer someone to the appropriate activity or service within the Charity.

What is the Selsey Community Forum?

It is an umbrella Charity, first registered with the Charity Commission on 31 March 2014 as an unincorporated Charity. Since that time the Charity has expanded both in size and in the number of services it offers, and it accordingly converted to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 7 June 2023.

Its primary aim is helping our residents in Selsey and surrounding villages on the Manhood Peninsula. Through action-driven regular partnership meetings, we bring together local organisations to help meet local needs. It works in partnership with local community groups, Churches, Selsey Medical Practice, charities, local businesses and statutory organisations coordinating and delivering support for our local community.

As a Charity, we demonstrated how we were able to respond to multiple needs during the Covid-19 emergency and substantially increased awareness in the local communities of what Selsey Community Forum offers.

In April 2024 we were presented with the King’s Award for Voluntary Service which is equivalent to the MBE, is awarded for life and the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK.  This was a testament to the hard work and commitment of the Selsey Community Forum staff and volunteers, and we could not have been prouder.

Community Information

We provide information about Selsey to residents and visitors, producing a ‘Welcome Pack’ and every month we create a Community Diary of all the events arranged by Selsey Community Forum. A monthly Newsletter is produced to inform and entertain and delivered to all those on our database.

Community Hubs

We are working with members of other communities in helping set up or expand Community Hubs: Bracklesham, the Witterings, Hunston, Birdham and Midhurst.  The Selsey Community Forum and Selsey Care Shop have become beacons of inspiration that others wish to emulate and be part of.
